About

Erin Touey (b. 2000) works and lives in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She graduated with a BFA in painting from Tyler School of Art and Architecture in 2022.

My paintings and drawings straddle a line between figuration and abstraction. Fluid shapes, variation of line weight, non representational color, and distortion of perspective bring often tangible subject matter into the abstract realm. When using oil paint, I utilize a limited palette consisting of Phthalo Blue, Cadmium Yellow, and Quinacridone Magenta. The mixed colors reveal themselves through washes, opaque and transparent, the value determined by the amount of medium used. The white of the canvas is often preserved deliberately, the negative space creating shapes that sometimes jump forward or fall back.
